The works on the construction of a railway for 200 km/h from Novi Sad to Subotica officially began on April 7, when the rail traffic on that route was stopped. The section is 108 kilometers long and 49 new facilities – overpasses, underpasses, viaducts – will be built on it.

Nenad Stanisavljevic of the Serbian Railways Infrastructure points out that the overhead lines on the Sajlovo-Zmajevo are currently being dismounted.

Due to this, they warn all citizens who are crossing the railway to comply with the warning signs and not approach the lines and the construction site.

Stanisavljevic reminds that the works began even before April 7 in Novi Sad and adds that the execution of the works will now be simpler, because the contractors have the experience from the previous section and because the terrain is flatter and adds that the longest structure to be built here is the viaduct in Vrbas, which will be around 1,600 meters long.

All nine railway stations will be reconstructed as well. Lovcenac, Rumenka and Vrbas will get new stations.

In order to enable regular and unobstructed traffic, the Serbian Railways Infrastructure has reconstructed regional railways in the past two years.

The value of the investment is EUR 1.16 billion, notes Stanisavljevic and concludes that, at the end of 2024, when the works are done, trains will travel between Novi Sad and Subotica in an hour and 15 minutes on a route of 108 kilometers.
