Sumadijska Akademija to Be Raised in Knic – Students’ Home with Computer Center and Café and Sports Hall to Be Built Next to Reconstructed High School

The Municipality of Knic has advertised the public presentation of the urban project for the construction of the “Sumadijska Akademija” complex.

The project envisages the reconstruction of the “Dobrica Eric” high school and the construction of a students’ home in Knic, which will comprise a functional unit, and then later the construction of a sports hall as well.

The investor is the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, and the document was prepared by AG-UNS arhitektonsko-gradjevinski institut doo Novi Sad.

The project covers an area of 6,782 m2.

The existing high school facility, according to the project, will be reconstructed to the end of improving the spatial conditions and energy efficiency of the facility, which entails the replacement of radiators, the installation of LED lighting and the preparation of an energy passport of the facility.

The two legs of the facility will have three floors each. The first leg will feature a library of a larger capacity, and the reconstruction and an increase of the number of classrooms is planned as well. A larger number of classrooms is planned for the second leg as well, next to the teachers’ cabinets.

The new students’ hall facility will be connected by a footbridge with the high school building. It will have 4 floors, a restaurant and a café bar and a capacity of 49 two- and three-bed rooms for the accommodation of at least 150 students.

The facility will have accommodation and education functions and be used during school breaks.

The first floor will feature multifunctional halls for education, a computer center and spaces for socializing. Accommodation capacities are planned on other floors, and the final floor is also to feature a space for resting and socializing for the users of the students’ home, which will also provide a view to the surroundings.

Around 26% of the total area will be covered with greenery.

The construction of a street network in a semi-ring shape is planned as well.

On the north side of the high school, on three hectares, the construction of a sports hall complex with auxiliary features to be used by the school’s students, as well as a public parking lot with a capacity of 105 parking spaces, is planned.

The city sport center is located in the immediate environment, in the complex of the existing football field, as are the “Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic” elementary school and a church with a yard.

The construction of “Sumadijska Akademija” was announced in early 2020 as “a lifelong science and education center”, and last year, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said that EUR 5.3 million would be set aside for its construction.
