Helbiz Gets Concession for Management of Public Bicycle System in Belgrade

This year, Belgrade will get public bicycles like many other developed cities of the world, said Goran Vesic, the deputy mayor of Belgrade, on TV Prva and confirmed that the company Helbiz had been selected as the first and exclusive operator of the public bicycle system in Belgrade for a period of 15 years at the public tender published by the City of Belgrade.

– When the newly elected City Assembly confirms this agreement, there will be thousands of public bicycles on the streets of our city, which will be available to citizens at 150 public bicycle stations. The majority of the public stations, as many as 47, will be set up in New Belgrade. Stari Grad follows with 20 stations, Palilula has 18, Zvezdara 13, Vracar 12, Savski Venac 15, Vozdovac 15, Cukarica 3 and Zemun 7 – Vesic explained.

The American company Helbiz, founded in 2015 in New York, offers a varied fleet of vehicles, including electric bicycles and electric scooters in 40 cities of the USA, Europe, as well as Singapore, Beoinfo reports.

The City of Belgrade published the public procurements procedure on December 30, 2021, seeking a partner for a public bicycle system, through a 15-year concession, whose value is around EUR 5 million.

– The City of Belgrade plans to build around 500 kilometers of new bicycle lanes, so as to secure the necessary infrastructure for the use of bicycles – said Vesic.
