Kikinda will be one of the partners in launching a project in the field of biodiversity, with the goal of planting forest species on unused agricultural plots, in order to create a quality habitat for flora and fauna.

On that occasion, the Mayor of Kikinda Nikola Lukac pointed out that this project will restore natural habitats to many species, all based on the experience of a very successful country in this field such as Austria:

- Together we want to realize certain projects that are currently on a voluntary basis, and we want to be pioneers in this project. We also want to achieve this project with small farmers. This means that we will better protect the environment, restore natural habitats to many species, all based on the

experience of a very successful country in this field, such as Austria. All this together with domestic companies and farmers.

Attaché of the Austrian Embassy in Serbia in charge of agriculture and the environment, Dr. Christian Brawenz said that with this project Kikinda would be a pioneer in Serbia, and that the possibilities are numerous, as well as the benefits that would be realized in the field of ecology:

- The topic of the meeting was biodiversity in agriculture, which is a very important sector in Kikinda, as well as in the whole of Vojvodina, considering that the land is cultivated on large areas. It often happens that large areas of agricultural land are not used, and imagine what it would be like to change that. Nobody benefits from the current state, neither farmers nor the animal world. We want to use uncultivated land to create a new world for insects, birds and other animals. Such projects have already been implemented in Austria.

In the upcoming period, a review of the plots will be done, after which, in agreement with everyone, it will be decided on which land the pilot project will be implemented.
