In Serbia, which will subsidize the start of production of electric cars at the Fiat factory in Kragujevac, there is still no adequate network of chargers for the vehicle batteries on all public roads - the estimation is that there are less than 200 of them.

So far, the Oil Company of Serbia (NIS) has enabled consumers to refuel electric cars at four gas stations on the highways: Velika Plana-desna, Stari Banovci, Novi Sad 16 and Sokolici 1.

For fast charging the car, the price per minute is 24 dinars, which is 1,440 dinars with value added tax (VAT) per hour, enough for the car to cover about 300 kilometers.

In the public enterprise (PE) Roads of Serbia, the spokespeople stated that in 2017 they have installed five chargers for electric cars at strategical key points on highways, i.e at the border entrances into Serbia, at the toll stations "Presevo", "Sid", "Dimitrovgrad", "Subotica" , as well as at the central location in the country, in the area of the former "Belgrade" toll station near Bubanj potok.

The electric charger, which was located on the plateau of the former toll station "Belgrade" near Bubanj Potok, has in the meantime been relocated to the rest area Boljkovci (direction Belgrade-Cacak), on the Milos Veliki highway, near the Ljig toll station, due to construction works on the bypass around Belgrade.

In January 2021, PE Roads of Serbia carried out a project for the installation of three ultra-fast electric chargers, with a power of 175 kW, located at the "Belgrade" toll station, direction Niš-Belgrade, and on the plateau of the former "Nis" toll station, one in the direction of Belgrade , and others in the direction of Nis.

- The service of charging the electric car battery is currently free, because we want to contribute to the revival and development of electric vehicles, therefore the costs of electricity are currently borne by the company, and once the legal conditions are met, charging will be introduced - they told us at the Roads of Serbia.

They added that PE Roads of Serbia, in cooperation with the relevant ministry, intends to equip new sections of highways with electric chargers, and a tender for the installation of ten additional electric chargers on public roads, is currently underway.
