A new production facility of the company Sigma d.o.o. for the production of biocide products based on active chlorine, unique in Southeast Europe, was opened in Crvenka in the presence of representatives of the competent institutions.

The opening of the new facility is supported by the Ministry of Economy, the Innovation Fund and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, the Government of Vojvodina and the Provincial Secretariat for Healthcare within the public invitation for suppressing the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sigma d.o.o. produces and fills disinfectants that are used in the prevention of and fight against Covid 19 and which are prepared in line with European standards, safe and secure for people and the environment, it is said in the announcement of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS).

– The process of electrolysis of a water solution of salt produces the most efficient products suitable for use in hospital conditions and conditions of exposure to viral infections – pointed out Dragan Kapicic, the general manager and owner of Sigma d.o.o. Crvenka.

Dragan Stevanovic, the secretary of the Association for Chemical Industry at the CCIS, pointed out that the Chamber supported local knowledge, development of new technologies and export of innovations developed in our country and that Sigma was only one excellent example. The company has started selling its products in Croatia, Hungary, but their plans don’t just include the countries of the region, but also the African market. The development of equipment and products for disinfection is a great step forward, because, with the support of institutes and universities, in one word, local knowledge, new technological solutions were made which will be competitive in foreign markets.

– Sigma is the leading local producer of products for the treatment of drinking water and their production is a combination of the digital, the innovative and the ecological, which, in the time of constant challenges, climate and health pandemics, is extremely important, because access to and disinfection of drinking water are becoming a challenge, not just to local self-governments, but also on the national level – says Sinisa Mitrovic, the manager of the Center for Circular Economy at the CCIS.

The minister of economy of Serbia, Andjelka Atanaskovic, pointed out that the state would continue supporting companies that wanted to increase their production capacities and improve themselves and pointed out that the total production of the company would be supported by energy from renewable sources.

– The Ministry of Economy had realized the importance and secured funds for the realization of this project in April. In addition to the creation of new jobs, it will also bring an investment of at least EUR 500,000. In addition to founding a unique production and logistics center for the production and distribution of disinfection funds based on active chlorine, an investment in a solar power plant, which will produce electrical energy for the operations of this center, is planned as well – Atanaskovic said.

Atanaskovic reminded that, in the preceding two years, the Ministry of Economy had also supported Sigma through the Innovation Fund and through the program of support for the purchase of new equipment.

– Thanks to local technology, Serbia is now not dependent on the import of an extremely important chemical for efficient disinfection in all critical circumstances like pandemics. At the same time, Serbia is becoming independent from the import of products for the disinfection of drinking water without which water supply systems would not be able to deliver drinking water to people. It is precisely this independence that represents, to the fullest extent, the importance of the synergy of the state and private business entities – said Atanaskovic, as announced by the ministry.

The provincial secretary for healthcare, professor Dr Zoran Gojkovic, reminded that Sigma had donated 2.7 million liters of disinfection products for the healthcare system of Serbia and that the state had supported the increase of the total capacities of this renowned company.
