The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic, and the ambassador of Bulgaria to Serbia, Petko Doykov, have signed an agreement on cooperation on the technical maintenance of the Danube navigable waterway. The signed document envisages cooperation on the technical maintenance of the key points for the sector of the transport of goods on the Danube navigable way, on the section between the 610th and 375th kilometers of the river.

– By signing the bilateral agreement, the conditions have met for Serbia and Bulgaria to jointly carry out intervention excavation works and enable the navigability of the Danube in the conditions of the extremely low water levels, as this is a corridor of the highest importance, and thereby help the economy of not just our two countries, but also all the countries along the Danube – Momorovic stated on the occasion, as said in the ministry’s announcement.

He added that “the works which will be very soon carried out in Bulgaria are of invaluable importance for our country, our economy and our energy stability, because, due to the low water levels, we have over a million tons of coal, over 400 thousand tons of grains, as well as products for our steel and chemical industries, blocked at the moment”.

– Bulgaria appreciates a lot the possibility of deepening the cooperation by expanding the bilateral legal basis along with the dedication to the maintenance of the Danube river and welcomes the joint operations of the two states toward securing unobstructed transport and supply along the Danube, which is an important European waterway and part of the main trans-European corridor Rhine-Danube – Doykov said.
