The first Belgrade fair officially opened and was held between September 11 and 23, 1937, at today’s Old Fairground. At the first fair, 26 pavilions hosted 883 exhibitors, of which 99 came from 17 state from three continents. The fair halls were visited by around 300,000 visitors from the country and around 10,000 from abroad.
Since then, the Belgrade Fair has changed its location, expanded the infrastructure, improved services and moved standards, was one of the leaders in the creation and realization of the economic and market ambiance of the country, and was and remains the key link between the Serbian economy and the world.
From the beginning of the first fair event, the Fair has embraced around 520,000 exhibitors from as many as 180 countries, welcomed almost 65 million visitors, organized more than 3,400 fair events of different profiles and formats, which have on average attracted around twenty thousand people each, the press release says.
This year’s anniversary coincides with the visit of a delegation of the Bureau international des expositions (BIE) to Belgrade. The delegation is visiting the cities which recently applied at Paris to host Expo 2027 in order to be able to reach the decision as to which city to award this honor to.
