The construction of a new oil pipeline through which Serbia would get cheaper black gold from the Ural region, which Serbia made an agreement about with Hungary two days ago, primarily means the diversification of the supply sources and not depending on only one direction, Croatia. With the construction of the pipeline, new interconnections, primarily with friendly countries such as Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary, Serbia will secure energy stability, professor Dr Stevica Dedjanski of the Center for Development of International Cooperation, says for the Politika daily.

– The construction of the oil pipeline can be completed in less than 20 months if we start now, which we will. If everything goes as planned, it could be completed much earlier. The realistic estimate is that the pipeline costs around EUR 100 million or slightly more. But, considering that the transit by JANAF costs us 48 million a year, it’s not too much – he emphasizes.

As Beta reports, two options for connecting with the Druzhba oil pipeline are being analyzed, says the Ministry of Energy. The first one is construction to Szeged, to Algyo. The route of that oil pipeline, which would secure a partial capacity for the supplying of the refinery in Pancevo, would be 128 kilometers long, of which 104 km would be in the territory of Serbia, and the estimated value of the investment is EUR 83 million, that is, 64 million for construction in the territory of Serbia. The second option for connecting with the Druzhba oil pipeline near Budapest is construction from Novi Sad to Szazhalombatta, 400 kilometers long, and the estimated value of the investment is around EUR 240 million.

The Druzhba oil pipeline, which has been operating since 1964, is the longest in the world, at 4,000 kilometers. It begins in Samara Oblast in Russia, passes through Bryansk and then branches off to north and south pipes, passing through the territories of Belarus, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Latvia and Lithuania.
