Company A1 Installs 2,000 Solar Panels on Base Stations – Covering of Data Center in Kragujevac with Solar Panels Planned Too

The company A1 Serbia has installed 2,000 solar panels on its base stations throughout Serbia, and the plan is to also install solar power plants on the Data Center in Kragujevac, as announced in the company’s press release.

– We want to build a sustainable network whose quality does not only consist of the speed of internet access, reliability and coverage, but also a careful usage of natural resources and the environmental impact – says Dejan Turk, the CEO of A1 Serbia and A1 Slovenia.

The orientation toward sustainable development is part of a wider ESG strategy adopted at the level of the entire A1 Telekom Austria Group, and it pertains to achieving carbon-neutrality through reducing the carbon footprint and gradually switching to renewable energy sources by the end of 2030. Furthermore, as announced, the aim is to increase energy efficiency by 80% compared to 2019.

According to Nenad Zeljkovic, the CTO of A1 Serbia and A1 Slovenia, “at 1,000 of our base station locations, we use energy from renewable source, which reduced CO2 emissions by 19% in 2021, and now we are moving a step further and working on installing solar panels”.

– The plan is to have over 5,000 solar panels by the end of 2023. We also plan to install solar panels on our Data Center in Kragujevac, because radio base stations and data centers have the biggest impact on the total consumption of electrical energy – emphasized Zeljkovic, as announced in the press release.
