Due to the announced power shortages during the winter season, the company Mercator-S has devised an energy strategy which it will start realizing on November 1 and through which it will save 2,400 MWh, which is enough power for the annual consumption of as many as 400 households

From November 1, Mercator hypermarkets, Roda markets and IDEA stores throughout Serbia will fully switch off all the company’s beverage refrigerators. In all these retail facilities, lighting in auxiliary rooms will be turned off, along with the mandatory turning off of lights in rooms in which there is nobody. In addition to that, all the exterior lights in front of all the Mercator hypermarkets, Roda markets and IDEA stores throughout Serbia will be fully turned off.

The entire exterior lighting will be reduced to a minimum, except in the parking areas, the use of the refrigerated chambers will be maximally rationalized, and all the chambers that are not in use will be fully switched off. In order to save the energy used for heating, the company has also made the decision for all the doors that are located in the in-between zones between the retail space and the warehouse and the warehouse and the goods reception area to be closed. Last but not least, in all IDEA, Roda and Mercator facilities throughout Serbia, lighting in cosmetics sections will be turned off.

When it comes to saving electrical energy, to the end of solidarity with the current situation, the company Mercator-S has decided to also carry out all the necessary measures in other facilities belonging to it throughout Serbia as well, such as Velpro centers, logistics-distributions center, management buildings in Belgrade and Novi Sad, as well as in Kantina 904, the restaurant that is meant exclusively for employees in this organization.

The electrical energy saving that Mercator-S is planning, amounting to 2,400 MWh, is especially important considering that the average consumption of electrical energy of a household in Serbia, on an annual level, is around 6 MWh.
