In order for the waste waters of the sewer system of Novi Sad to be poured into the Danube, filtered in line with the latest European standards, in the past few years, a considerable part of the preparations for the realization of the large and expensive project of the construction of the central treatment facility have been carried out, and the facility will be located in the Rokov Potok site on the Srem side of the city, according to the decision previously adopted by the City Assembly.

The question is also regulated within the Detailed Regulation Plan of Petrovaradin, the document adopted at the session of the City Assembly in mid-September this year, which says that the central city waste water treatment facility will be located on the right river bank, on an area of 14.5 hectares.

– The capacity of the future waste water treatment facility will be 400,000 residents, with the possibility of expansion of up to 500,000. All the accompanying infrastructure will be adapted to that maximum development rate – the plan specifies.

The beginning of the first phase of the construction of the facility is planned for 2023, and according to the plan, the final phase should be completed around 2035. The exploitation life cycle of that facility is estimated at 30 years.

One of the most important and valuable facilities built within the preparations for the construction of the waste water treatment facility is the New Main Pumping Station, located on the left bank of the Danube in close proximity to the new road-rail bridge and the wholesale open market, for whose first construction phase a total of RSD 860 million was set aside from the city budget.

Within this big and important project of the central waste water treatment facility, it is also necessary to build a range of accompanying collectors and pumping stations in various locations.

The total value of the first phase of the construction of the central waste water treatment facility, according to the assessment of the Prior Feasibility Study, is estimated at EUR 70 million, but the amount is expected to be considerably higher, as was said in a discussion during one of the earlier sessions of the City Assembly.

The preparation of the Prior Feasibility Study with the General Project for the Central Waste Water Treatment Facility cost EUR 300,000, and the money was secured from the EU fund for technical assistance to the Western Balkans.
