On Friday, December 9, at 2.10 PM, Air Serbia’s JU702 flight took off from Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport to Tianjin.

After a pause of 22 years, the national airline had thus again commenced direct flights to China. Flights on this route will be operated using wide-body A330-200 aircraft from Air Serbia’s long-haul fleet. Belgrade-Tianjin flights will be operated on Friday, with an average flight duration of 10 hours, while flights from Tianjin to Belgrade would be carried out on Sunday, and will last an average of 12 hours, says the press release by Air Serbia.

– We opened a new chapter in our operations by enabling our passengers to fly directly to China, and we believe it will make their travels to this distant destination much easier. For some time, Belgrade has already provided good connectivity of the broader Balkan region to numerous destinations in the world. As of today, it’s possible to fly from Belgrade to China, too. Our company is one of the few in Europe which offer direct flights to this Asian country. We are now flying to Tianjin, and in the future, we hope that we will be flying to other important Chinese cities as well – said Jiří Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.

By establishing a direct route to China, Air Serbia provided its passengers with good connections, via Belgrade, to destinations such as Amsterdam, Barcelona, Oslo, Paris, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Ljubljana, Prague, Venice, Valencia, Zagreb, and other destinations in its growing network.

On this occasion, the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, stated that this “will further strengthen economic ties between Serbia and China, bring new investors, attract a large number of tourists to our country, but also improve interpersonal relations between the two nations”, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

She added that the flight would connect Belgrade not only with Tianjin, but also with Beijing, which could be reached by high-speed rail in half an hour.

She estimated that “a better transport connection between the two countries will improve the economic cooperation between Serbia and China, but will also further connect the two countries on a cultural level, given that national representative offices of culture of both nations have been opened in the two countries’ capitals”, it is added.
