Forming of First Center for Pre-Clinical Trials in Serbia – Cooperation of Dedinje Institute and Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Agreed

To the end of enacting progress and development of scientific research and cardio-surgery practice, an agreement was signed at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases Dedinje on the business-technical cooperation between this health institution and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Belgrade.

The agreement was signed by the director of the Institute, professor Dr Milovan Bojic, and the dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, professor Dr Milorad Mirilovic. The signing of the agreement was attended by professor Dr Egemen Tuzun, a director at the Texas A&M University, and the president of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs.

The signing of the agreement on the business-technical cooperation between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Dedinje Institute will enable joint results of the experts of these two institutions through the forming of the Center for Pre-Clinical Trials, the first one of its kind in Serbia, which will do experimental treatment of animals, development and research of new medical equipment and products, which, through joint programs, will improve the quality of operations in the field of human medicine.

Dr Sasa Borovic, the head of the Center for Heart Disease Treatment at the Institute, within which 20 artificial hearts have been implanted at Dedinje so far, in addition to leading said center, will also run the new Center for Pre-Clinical Trials.

The modern world strives for humane research of new products, not just to the end of providing standard healthcare, but also to be innovative in the whole process of the medical treatment of people. For the first time, thanks to the Government of Serbia, the Ministry for Innovations and Scientific-Technical Development has been formed, and it is our honor to be an offspring of that concept and its carrier – said Dr Borovic.

Through his work within teams for all research of the most modern pumps and heart replacements which currently exist in the world, professor Dr Egemen Tuzun has acquired enviable knowledge and skills, which he will share with his colleagues from the Dedinje Institute by providing advice as a consultant in the process of the founding of the Center for Pre-Clinical Trials.
