The director of the PUE Beogradske Elektrane, Vanja Vukic, and the director of the PE Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), Miroslav Tomasevic, have signed the Agreement on the construction of the missing infrastructure and the regulation of the mutual rights and obligations related to the realization of the project of the construction of the Obrenovac-New Belgrade heating pipeline.

The project envisages for the heating energy to be taken from the blocks A3-A6 of the Thermal Power Plant Tesla A – TENT A (the capacity of the system for the transfer of heating energy to the heating plant New Belgrade is 600 MWt) and transported to the heating plant New Belgrade. That energy would be used in the existing distribution system of Beogradske Elektrane, that is, in addition to the heating area New Belgrade, the energy would also be delivered to consumers from other linked networks, primarily the heating plants Dunav and Konjarnik, conditioned on the meeting of the necessary requirements.

The project entails the reconstruction of the blocks and the construction of a heat exchange station at TENT, the construction of a pre-insulated heating pipeline of 28 kilometers, the construction of two pre-pumping stations (Boljevci, Ostruznica) and a pumping-heat exchange station at the heating plant New Belgrade.

The project aims to replace the imported natural gas with the available heating energy from TENT, to increase the energy security and reliability of the central heating system and to reduce harmful emissions in the Belgrade area. The plan is for the credit return to be realized from the difference between the production price of heating energy from natural gas at Beogradske Elektrane and the one taken from TENT.

The heating energy from TENT A will be used for the supply of a considerable part of the current consumer base of Beogradske Elektrane, primarily in the areas of New Belgrade, Zemun and the consumers in the area of the right Sava slope, through the distribution area of the heating plant New Belgrade, according to the website of Beogradske Elektrane.

The direct benefit of the project is the reduced use of natural gas in the production of heating energy at the heating plant New Belgrade and the increased energy efficient of TENT A through cogeneration, that is, the simultaneous production of electrical and heating energy, which leads to considerable positive environmental effects and the reduction of air pollution in Belgrade.

The Agreement on the Project of the construction of the heating pipeline Obrenovac-New Belgrade was signed on January 9, 2020, between the PUE Beogradske Elektrane, the City of Belgrade and the contractor Power Construction Corporation of China.
