Full Profile of Bridge on the Sava Near Ostruznica Opens to Traffic

The full profile of the bridge on the Sava near Ostruznica has opened to traffic, as announced by the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, on his Facebook profile.

Following the successful completion of the construction of the new bridge for the Bubanj Potok-Dobanovci route of the bypass route around Belgrade, the conditions were met for the repair of the old bridge which had been out of function for over 15 years and under constant heavy traffic in both directions. It was the only crossing on the Sava on the bypass route for several dozen thousands of drivers a day, Vesic reminded, as announced on the website of the ministry.

– The construction of this, nearly two-kilometers-long, bridge was not easy in the 1990 while Serbia was under sanctions. After the construction was completed in 1999, before there was even traffic on it, the bridge was destroyed in the NATO aggression. The bridge rose back as soon as 2005, arising from its own ruins with the help of hard-working builders – Vesic said.

In the past 15 months, a full repair of the Ostruznica Bridge has been done. The value of the job is around RSD 900 million.

Yesterday, the bridge opened to traffic, and in the coming months, the works on the lower profile of the bridge will continue, due to which the speed will be limited to 80 kilometers per hour until all the works are completed.

The speed will be controlled by a camera with a radar.

– Serbia will get another 2.2 kilometers of a highway with the most significant structure on the bypass route around the city of Belgrade – Vesic pointed out.
