Each third young person aged 18 to 24 has refused a job at a company that they have estimated does not meet environmental and social criteria, giving advantage to “greener” companies – As shown by research carried out by the consulting company KPMG.

The survey was carried out in Great Britain among 6,000 students, interns and office workers. Nearly a half, 46%, want the company for which they work to have a friendly orientation toward the living environment. Resignations due to climate are the most frequent among the millennials and the generation Z.

Overall, each fifth subject says that they have rejected a job offer from a company whose environmental, social and governance standards (ESG standards) are not in line with their personal values.

The number of refusals grows as the age of the subjects reduces, so each third subject aged 18-24 refuses such jobs. More than a half of the subjects in this age group and in the 25-34 group say that they appreciate the employers’ efforts in these fields. The same was said by 48% of the subjects in the 35-44 age bracket.

Not only do they appreciate them, but they also research the company’s results in this field – 30% subjects do so, as well as 45% young subjects up to 24 years of age. Among the things that the subject most frequently research are the environmental impact of the company and the wage policy.

– For businesses, the course of action is clear. By 2025, 75% of the workers will be millennials, which means that companies must have clear plans when it comes to ESG standards if they want to attract workforce – says the head of ESG at KPMG, John McCalla-Leacy.
