Wikipedia in Serbian is celebrating an anniversary – two decades of the existence of the project, volunteering work and time, numerous articles and free content, announced Wikimedia Serbia.

As a project and idea, Wikipedia was launched in 2001, when the English version was created. Two years later, the Serbian version of Wikipedia was created, on February 16. Since this is a volunteering project, which was pioneering at the time, much gratitude should be given to volunteers such as Nikola Smolenski, who completed the translation of the main page, after it was created by an anonymous user from Germany, the press release says.

Wikipedia in Serbia now has 670,000 articles and currently places 21st among all the different language versions of Wikipedia, has over 320 thousand registered users and, each month, around 850 of them make at least 5 changes to the articles, the press release adds.
