Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) is planning to expand the open-pit mine G in the Kolubara Basin, and Ministry of Environmental Protection has set the scope and the contents of the Environmental Impact Assessments Study of this project.

The open-pit mine Field G is located in the western part of the Kolubara coal basin and it started operating after the completed exploitation at the Veliki Crljeni mine, as its substitute capacity.

According to the decision of the ministry, the expansion of Field G is necessary due to the delay in the procurement of the equipment for the open-pit mine Radljevo.

It is added that the coal from Field G is of better quality and that it will be used for the purposes of the Thermal Power Plant Nikola Tesla (TENT) in Obrenovac.

Coal production at this expansion would last for another year and a half, and exploitation from Radljevo would also start in that period.

The total amount of the coal projected for excavation from Field G is 35 million tons, that is, 5 million a year.

The Radljevo mine is the youngest mine in Kolubara, and according to the EPS website, at the moment, one system for the production of overburden is active and there are efforts to open the coal layer.

According to earlier announcements, the first quantities of coal from that mine were supposed to start being excavated this year.
