Intermodal Terminal in Batajnica to Open in a Few Days

The logistics center, which will combine two types of transport in Belgrade, should open in a few days, City Manager Miroslav Cuckovic announced at the session of the City Assembly of Belgrade. He added that the intermodal terminal in Batajnica would increase the number of companies that would use Belgrade and Serbia as a place for their combined rail-road transport eightfold.

The City of Belgrade has provided the land, defines itself as a co-owner together with the Government of Serbia, and will be, according to Cuckovic, a co-owner of 15% of the company Logisticki centri Srbije.

– With this center, which is built on an area of thirteen hectares, with EU funds, our city is realizing a strategic advantage compared to all other capital cities in the region. Thanks to this service, which is one of the biggest ones when it comes to GDP share, this year, there will be a considerable salary and pension increase, and the role the city plays in all this is very significant – said the city manager.

Let us remind that the construction of the Belgrade “dry port”, worth EUR 15.5 million, began in November 2020.

The execution of this project is planned through the realization of IPA 2015, and the procurement of the equipment and the technical help to the operator, worth a total of EUR 2.9 million, will be financed from the budget of the Republic of Serbia.

The agreement on the supervision over the project, signed on August 26, 2019, with Eptisa, is worth a total of EUR 675,100, whereas the agreement on the construction of the intermodal terminal was signed on October 14, 2019, with Strabag and is worth a total of EUR 14.5 million.

The construction of the intermodal terminal in Belgrade stimulates the development of modern combined transport by increasing the participation of rail transport and creating a partnership relation with road transport. This will make rail transport more competitive in the market, while following all the future tendencies in transport through the use of modern technologies.
