The digitalization of customs was initiated several years ago and a lot has already been done to improve its work, said the minister of finance of Serbia, Sinisa Mali, during his conversation with the secretary general of the World Customs Organization, Kunio Mikuriya, about improving the work of the Customs Administration and its digitalization, as well as about strengthening personnel capacities, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

He explained that the projects for the introduction of e-invoices and e-fiscalization had already been completed, adding that the digitalization of customs would complete an important process in the economy.

Mali also pointed out that new agreements on free trade were being prepared, which would enable economic growth in Serbia to be even greater and added that new factories and highways were being built, all of which contributed to the economic growth and making the country more attractive for investments.

– A record level of foreign direct investments (FDI) of as much as EUR 4.4 billion was recorded in 2022, and in the first three months of this year, a higher FDI inflow was recorded than in the same period last year – the minister pointed out on that occasion.

Mikuriya pointed out that borders divide, but customs connect, stressing that it was important to implement the digitalization of customs, as well as to implement international standards in this regard.

He pointed out that it was also crucial to invest in human resources so that they would be motivated and trained to do their jobs as efficiently as possible and assessed that Serbia was the regional economic leader.

He supported the “Open Balkans” initiative, which implies a faster and easier protocol of goods, people and services, and expressed hope that other countries in the region could be influenced to strengthen their economies.
