The practice will continue in 2024, which practically means that we are looking at another two price increases, so that Serbia would harmonize with the EU standards, according to which, by 2025, the state should earn at least EUR 90 per 1,000 cigarettes, that is, EUR 1.8 per pack, instead of the current EUR 70. Practically, in a year and a half, we will pay for cigarettes at the prices identical to those in the EU, for example, in Germany.
Even those who have replaced traditional cigarettes with electronic ones will be just as affected, because the liquid used for the filling of electronic cigarettes will also become more expensive, by one dinar per millimeter. Fans of non-combustible tobacco, which is increasingly popular, will also be affected, because, due to the adjustment of the specific excise tax, they will also most probably have to set aside at least RSD 10 more per pack.
It is increasingly likely that, in the next year and a half, smokers will pay more and more for their pleasure, so it’s realistic to expect for Serbian prices of tobacco products to reach European ones in 2025.
