In the first phase, the factory will have 20,000 m2 of production space, and in the next phase, which began in mid-April, an additional 30,000 m2 will be built.
The representatives of Wacker Neuson said at the opening of the facility that the new investments aimed to expand their business operations in Serbia, as they were satisfied with the results of the operations of the factory that had been working in Kragujevac for 16 years up till that point. A member of the company’s Executive Board, Felix Bietenbeck, stated that, after the planned expansion in Kragujevac, they would have one of the biggest factories, fully automated, which would spread on 100,000 m2, featuring 40 welding robots.
In Kragujevac, Wacker Neuson employs around 800 workers on jobs of making finishing steel structures, and at the end of the investment, there will be more than 1,200 employees.
The CEO of Wacker Neuson, Karl Tragl, stated that the company had had a big growth in the preceding years and that it had decided to make the new investment in Serbia due to the stable economic situation and the good cooperation with the Government of Serbia and the local self-government.
The opening of the factory was attended by the prime minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabic, who pointed out that Germany was the most important economic partner of Serbia and the biggest bilateral donor.
She said that, in 2022, the external trade of Serbia and Germany had amounted to around EUR 10 billion and that, in the first quarter of 2023, the results had been even better than in the same period in 2022.
According to the prime minister, German companies are not just bringing new jobs to Serbia, but also new know-how, technologies and business ethics.
The German ambassador to Serbia, Anke Konrad, said that German companies employed 80,000 people in Serbia and that Wacker Neuson was one of the biggest employers in Kragujevac.
– Companies from Germany, which are satisfied with the business environment in Serbia, are strengthening the economic road of Serbia to the EU. In Serbia, Germany has invested EUR 50 million in dual education, EUR 1 billion in energy and renewable energy sources, and it is also making a significant contribution in other fields as well – Konrad said.
