Beginning of Construction of “Smiley” Traffic Route Announced for This Year

The beginning of the construction of the “smiley” traffic route on a section of the Backi Breg-Nakovo road is planned for 2023, announced the minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic.

Together with the mayor of Sombor, Antonio Ratkovic, and the president of the municipality of Apatin, Dubravka Korac, he visited the works on the Sombor-Apatin road, according to the website of the City of Sombor.

Minister Vesic said that the road section between Apatin and Sombor was 12 km long and that around 7.5 km of the road had been reconstructed in the preceding period, and that there were works on the final section, 4.5 km long, at that moment, as well as that those works would be completed by mid-July.

– The state is thereby showing that it also invests in regional roads, not just highways and fast routes – Vesic said.

Regional roads forbidden for freight vehicles

He added that, in the near future, transit trucks would be forbidden from using regional roads and that they would instead only be able to use the highways.

– We are also looking at toll collection on IB-grate roads for trucks over 7.5 t, which means that we will considerably unburden local and regional roads, thereby preventing their destruction – he said.

Among other things, the minister announced the beginning of the reconstruction of the Kljajicevo-Telecka road, for which around RSD 360 million had been set aside, as well as the beginning of the construction of the “smiley” traffic route on the Backi Breg-Nakovo road section, which is planned for 2023.
