Serbia will develop bioeconomy and create a kind of a “biohub” in Europe, said the minister of science, technological development and innovations of Serbia, Jelena Begovic, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

At the panel of the World Economic Forum called “The Solution Is in the Biology”, Begovic said in Tianjin that biotechnology would have an increasingly big impact on all our lives and that Serbia was in a great position in the world, because that is where the west and the east, the north and the south, met.

– Serbia is a state which requires no visas whether you are coming from India, China, USA, EU. That is an excellent position to start something that will incite development on an international scale – she said.

According to her, “our aim is to gather scientists who will work and create in our country and to thereby create a new innovation ecosystem in Serbia.”

– Together with the World Economic Forum, we have opened the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the third such center in Europe and the 16th in the world. We are focused on biotechnology and artificial intelligence – the minister explained and said that the biggest challenges were in the fields of agriculture and food production, medicine, energy and environmental protection.

During her presentation, Begovic also presented the main project of her ministry – the Bio4 campus, that is, a platform which will gather academic citizens, the private sector and all the necessary infrastructure, all with the help of the Government of Serbia.

– We want to create a center which will be a world-class place for innovations. We want to attract people not just from the region, but from the world as well – she repeated and, at the same time, invited the participants to visit Serbia even before EXPO 2027.
