The Republic Directorate for Commodity Reserves has announced a tender for the development of project documentation for the construction of eight tanks of 20,000 m3 each with accompanying infrastructure at the existing oil derivatives warehouse in Smederevo.

The subject of the procurement is the preparation of project documentation for the construction of eight tanks of 20,000 m3 each for the storage of motor fuels (unleaded gasoline BMB-95,98 and Eurodiesel) and accompanying infrastructure within the existing oil derivatives storage facility in Smederevo.

As stated in the technical specification, in order to form strategic reserves, as one of the obligations Serbia has as a member of the Energy Community, it is necessary to renew the storage area with new tanks in which derivatives would be stored, in case the security of the country's supply of energy and energy products is threatened.

The Smederevo petroleum products warehouse is located on the right bank of the Danube River, approximately at kilometer 1114, downstream from Smederevo. It is intended for river reception, storage and distribution and road transport of oil and oil derivatives. It was designed in the 1980s, and the total storage capacity was more than 250,000 m3 of various types of oil derivatives.

After 2000, reconstruction began (almost all vital facilities and the entire tank area were destroyed in the NATO bombing), and the warehouse is in a functional state, but far below the storage capacity it once had.

The storage space currently consists of the renovated and functioning tanks: R–1 (15,000 m3), R–19 and R–20 (3,000 m3 each); R-29 (60,000 m3), R-27 (60,000 m3), as well as tanks R-21 (20,000 m3), R-22 (20,000 m3), R-23 (20,000 m3), R- 24 (20,000 m3), R-25 (20,000 m3) and R-26 (20,000 m3) which are in the final stage of construction. A new fuel pumping station 341 was also built, which improved manipulative capabilities.

The tender is open until August 28.

On Friday, the relevant minister, Dubravka Djedovic, said that six new tanks for the storage of oil derivatives are being constructed in Smederevo, which will be able to store a total of close to 100,000 tons of oil.

During the tour of the works, the Minister of Mining and Energy stated that the investment is worth about RSD 4 billion, and that the work on the remaining four reservoirs is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

He also said that the mandatory reserves of oil derivatives were increased last year by 54% compared to 2021.

- We secured additional quantities this year as well, and we will continue to work on it. At this moment, from various sources, we have stocks of oil and oil derivatives for 91 days of average consumption, and if there is a disturbance in the global market, we have greater certainty that we can overcome these problems - said Djedovic.
