The exports of the Serbian ICT sector record a growth of as much as 40% this year, and the most is exported to the USA, England and Switzerland, said the minister of information and telecommunications of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanovic, according to the government’s website.

As an example of Serbia’s development, he cited the fact that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued permits for the test drive of two autonomous vehicles and explained that it was important because the value of the market of autonomous vehicles, that is, the software which enables autonomous driving, amounted to EUR 100 billion at that moment.

The minister explained that said permits pertained to level 3 autonomous driving, where there’s a driver in the vehicle, who takes over the control of the vehicle in case there’s a problem.

According to him, the plan is to get the highest level of autonomous driving, level 5, entailing an autonomous vehicle which can operate entirely without a driver, by EXPO 2027.

As he explained, the biggest world companies invest a lot in the development of the software, which is not simple and which is based on artificial intelligence, so that the vehicles could move autonomously. By issuing these test permits, he says, we are opening the door to many companies which want to have their development in Serbia, which will further incite the development of our ICT sector.

As he emphasized, the increased exports of the Serbian ICT sector are a result of the development of innovations. He added that the participation of the ICT sector in the GDP was 11% and that Serbia was becoming recognized as a country of IT, technology and development.
