Serbia is to get 5G. As Blic learns, the rulebook will be up for a public discussion from Monday, after which the competition for the allocation of frequencies is to begin.

The Ministry of Information and Telecommunications has confirmed for the portal that the public discussion about the Draft Rulebook on the Minimum Requirements for the Issuing of Individual Permits for the Use of the Radio Spectrum Range Based on Public Bidding Procedures in the Radio Frequency Bands of 94–790 MHz, 2500–2690 MHz and 3400–3800 MHz is to begin on Monday.

The adoption of said rulebook is the basis for the initiation of the procedure of public bidding for the allocation of the radio spectrum range for fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication networks, which are one of the most important segments of social and economic development, as well as the entire digital transformation of the society.

– In the republic of Serbia, the basic, pioneering radio frequency bands of interest for the development of 5G have already been freed up, and the new Law on Electronic Communications, as well as the acts of the Government, the Ministry and the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL), are the regulatory framework for the further development of new-generation networks – the competent Ministry said.
