The reconstruction of the Karadjordje Stadium in Novi Sad is not to start on October 1, as initially announced, after all, and the president of FK Vojvodina (Vojvodina Football Club), Dragan Zbiljic, explained the detailed plan.

According to him, there are intensive talks between the Football Association of Serbia, the City of Novi Sad and FK Vojvodina and the beginning of the works on the reconstruction of the Karadjordje Stadium is being moved for administrative reasons, so until the end of this semi-season, the club will play matches at its stadium.

– The works were planned from October 1, and by then, the tenders for the contractor will only be opened, so the whole procedure takes a month, a month and a half, after which the agreement is to be signed, most probably in December. From January, we will see what happens, but we don’t want to specify the dates – Zbiljic said, as announced on the website of FK Vojvodina.

As he pointed out, “what we know for sure is that we have RSD 150 million secured from the City of Novi Sad and 150 from the Football Association of Serbia.”

– We will get a hybrid court and everything needed for its maintenance and I truly thank the City of Novi Sad and the Football Association of Serbia. It is important to point out that the reconstruction outside the field, on the stadium, costs RSD 540 million. We lack around RSD 390 million and we need to see with the Government of Serbia and the City how much money can be set aside, whether the project should be scaled down to the level of what can be set aside for us. This is a city stadium, so we expect this to be solved – said the head of the club.

He says that, if all the funds were secured, they could celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Karadjordje Stadium with the UEFA 4 standard.

– The plan is to get everything we need for that RSD 540 million – a club museum, a new media room and everything that the UEFA requires for that UEFA 4 standard – said Zbiljic.

Let us remind that, in the past years, there have been several announcements of the construction of a new stadium in Novi Sad with a capacity of up to 17,500 spectators.

At the request of the citizens, it was also decided at the time for the new Karadjordje Stadium in Novi Sad to be lower than the initially planned one, that is, for the western stands to have five instead of six floors and to be 28 instead of 32 meters tall.

You can read about whether the construction of the new stadium has been abandoned in a separate article on eKapija.
