This is the first photovoltaic facility at EPS’s branch Termoelektrane i kopovi Kostolac (Thermal Power Plants and Mines Kostolac) and it will be built at the external disposal site of the Open-Pit Mine “Cirikovac”.
It will have an installed power of 9.75 megawatts and a planned annual production of 15.6 gigawatt-hours.
The solar panels will spread on an area of 11.6 hectares. The planned value of the investment is RSD 1.36 billion and it is financed from EPS’s funds.
The planned project realization deadline period is 15 months from the possession of the site. The Solar Power Plant Petka is expected to be connected to the grid at the end of 2024.
The first photovoltaic power plant in Kostolac will produce electrical energy using the method of the conversion of non-accumulated solar radiation into direct current through solar modules based on the semi-conductor technology.
The installation of 18,720 photovoltaic modules is planned. They will be installed at an angle of 25 degrees. This small solar power plant will have a total of 98 inverters, 97 of which will have a power of 100 kW, and one of which will have 50 kW. In addition to that, the Solar Power Plant Petka will have 10 substations and one switchgear, from which the electricity will be directed at the Pozarevac substation.
Since the Solar Power Plant Petka is a pilot project and a small solar power plant, fixed panel rests will be installed. EPS will also consider a flexible angle for the construction of larger solar power plants.
The panels will comprise a photovoltaic field, consisting of 32 modules. They will be set up in two rows, and the distance between the panels will be 5.05 meters. The aim is not to have the panels cast a shadow on the panel located behind in the winter period, when the sunray angles are low.
The period of a return on the investment is calculated at 12 years, whereas the period of the exploitation of the power plant is 25 years. After that, only the panels are changed, whereas the structures, roads and infrastructure, comprising an important part of the total investment, are to remain. With the replacement of the panels, the power plant is revitalized for another 25 years of exploitation.
