Free Zone Subotica Wants to Build Science-Technology Park

So far, through the three rounds of negotiations within the “Together to Success” project, Free Zone Subotica has signed agreements on direct cooperation with 70 business entities from various fields – from higher education institutions, high schools, the Association of Employers, public utility enterprises to the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), stated Sasa Gravorac, the director of Free Zone Subotica.

The most recent, third round of signing cooperation agreements was also attended by Jovan Vukanovic, the president of the Free Zones of Serbia group, as well as Vladimir Ilic, the director of Free Zone Pirot.

– Subotica was the first to launch a project this important, not just for the economy of Subotica, but also for the economy of the Republic of Serbia, because, with the signing of the agreement, it initiated the connecting of all the zones and the opening of a mutual market of all the tenants and providers of services within the zones. At one moment, the zones had a large share in the economic development and turnover in the Republic of Serbia, in terms of percentages. This year, the zones had a record turnover and are of great importance in the overall turnover of goods, merchandise and capital in the country – estimated Jovan Vukanovic, the president of the Free Zones of Serbia group.

Vladimir Ilic, the director of Free Zone Pirot, said that they had over 60 users and that the signing of the agreement directly connected the north and the southeast of the country through the two leading free zones.

What Free Zone Subotica wants to stand out for in the coming period is the forming of a science-technology park.

– The basic intention which leads us toward the signing of these agreements is to connect, to exchange information considering that information is the most important resource based on which the economy functions today, so we should work together on launching numerous projects. We have presented our idea about raising a science-technology park in the space of Free Zone Subotica. We have developed a preliminary concept and we have addressed the city with the request for a recapitalization of the free zone through a free parcel and that is where we are planning to raise a science-technology park. In addition to direct integration and cooperation between the science and the economy, it would also encompass sports features for the tenants of the free zone. On one hand, that park would primarily focus on the market, and on the other, it would provide entertainment and sports features to all the tenants of the free zone, but also to other interested citizens – said Gravorac.

Since recently, Free Zone Subotica has been expanded to the Municipality of Senta has well, and at the next session, the members of the City Assembly of Subotica are supposed to decide on the expansion of this zone to the Municipality of Kanjiza as well, where there are already interested future tenants.
