Public Debt of Serbia at End-September 50.9% of GDP

The public debt of Serbia at the end of September this year amounted to around EUR 35.2 billion, which is 50.9% of the gross domestic product (GDP), announced the Ministry of Finance. At the end of July, the public debt was EUR 35.07 billion, that is, 50.7% of the GDP.

At the end of 2022, the public debt of Serbia was EUR 33.33 billion, or 55.1% of the GDP.

In the first eight months of this year, the budget deficit was RSD 31.5 billion, which is better than planned by RSD 142.1 billion, considering that a deficit of RSD 110.6 billion was planned, pointed out the Ministry of Finance. Income of RSD 1,229.2 billion was realized, and expenditures were realized in the amount of RSD 1,197.7 billion. A deficit of RSD 6.1 billion was realized in August. Revenues of RSD 140.2 billion were collected during August, of which tax revenues amounted to RSD 119.3 billion.

As said, the VAT was collected in the amount of RSD 66.2 billion, and excise taxes were collected in the amount of RSD 24.4 billion.

Non-tax revenues amounted to RSD 19.1 billion, and the inflow of donations in August amounted to RSD 1.9 billion.


Expenditures amounted to RSD 146.3 billion. In August, expenditures for employees amounted to RSD 32.5 billion, capital expenditures were at RSD 29.3 billion, transfers for the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, the National Health Insurance Fund, the National Employment Service and the Social Insurance Fund for Military Personnel were at RSD 21.5 billion, and welfare protection expenditures were RSD 13.2 billion.

At the state sector level, in the January-August period, a fiscal surplus of RSD 60.9 billion and a primary fiscal surplus of RSD 165.5 billion were realized, the Ministry of Finance announced.
