The annex to the agreement on the project of the construction of the Obrenovac-New Belgrade heating pipeline was signed yesterday at the Old Palace. The leaving mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Sapic, who signed the agreement with the acting director of the PUE Belgrade Power Plants, Vanja Vukic, and Yang Bo on behalf of the Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), estimated that this step meant full independence, stability and security regarding heating and energy stability.

– Now the reasons why the heating pipeline has not already been established, delivering heating, are no longer important. I believe that the conditions have met now and that, in two years, Belgrade will finally get what’s been expected for over 30 years. We will not depend on others. Instead, we will have our own heating energy. We will be directly connected with the power plant in Obrenovac. That is the only way for us to be able to heat more than a half of New Belgrade – said Sapic.

He reminded that the works on EPS’s facilities had started in January and that the company had started the preparations of the installations for this big and complex project.

– We have already obtained the construction permit and we are getting ready to lay down the pipes on the Obrenovac Bridge. Considering that the heating pipeline also passes by Surcin and that big works are to take place in that part of the city due to the construction of the fair, stadium and accompanying infrastructure, we can say that this municipality will also benefit from this manner of heating. As the City Administration, we will continue following this project logistically and in every other way, because it is of great energy importance for Belgrade – Sapic pointed out.

Vanja Vukic noted that “Belgrade Power Plants will take 600 MW of heating energy from the Thermal Power Plant Nikola Tesla and bring it to New Belgrade.”

– That means energy stability, but this agreement also entails the construction of 30 kilometers of the route, that is, 60 kilometers of the pipes. These 600 MW of heating energy mean more than a half of the installed power of the heating plant in New Belgrade, the largest one within the Belgrade Power Plants system – said Vukic.

Yang Bo, the representative of PowerChina, pointed out that the company had done everything to accelerate the procedures for the project to start as soon as possible.

– We believe that, with the cooperation and support of the Government, the City of Belgrade and all other participants, this project will be completed successfully and on time – pointed out Yang Bo.

Sapic also mentioned the upcoming heating season and emphasized that it would begin on time, on October 15.
