The European Commission (EC) expects Serbia to comply with the rules of public procurement procedures when it comes to agreeing the works for the organization of the specialized show EXPO 2027, the spokesperson of the EC, Ana Pisonero, stated today.

Pisonero confirmed for Radio Slobodna Evropa (RSE) that the Commission was familiar with the fact that the Government of Serbia had adopted the Bill of Special Procedures Regarding the Organization of EXPO 2027, according to which the works are supposed to be agreed without the application of the Law on Public Procurement Procedures.

“We expect Serbia to secure the full compliance with the rules of public procurement procedures in line with the national legislation and the EU legal acquis and to secure the transparency and supervision of the public procurement process,” stated Pisonero.

She also confirmed that representatives of the Commission and the authorities of Serbia would have a meeting not long after, where they would talk about a range of issues regarding public procurement procedures, including the lex specialis in question.

Belgrade will host the specialized show EXPO 2027, which will last for three months, from May 15 till August 15, 2027.

The features for EXPO Belgrade 2027, as well as the National Stadium and the accompanying infrastructure in Belgrade will be built in line with a special law, without the application of the Law on Public Procurement Procedures. It is estimated that the construction of these projects could cost around EUR 1 billion.
