Construction workers from abroad on the most significant projects in the region
It owes its success to the innovation and dedication of its 400 employees, who, working together as a large, well-coordinated international team of construction workers and engineers, they realize demanding projects on time and at the most favorable price, which proves that their workers are of high quality and productivity, and that they see themselves in this company for the long term. Modulor is the first company in Serbia that hired workers from India five years ago. Due to the expansion of business in new markets, their needs for quality workers are constantly increasing. With over 200 foreign workers in Serbia and 250 in Croatia, today they are among the employers with the largest number of foreign workers.

Only a satisfied employee is productive and loyal to the company in the long run - says HR director at Modulor, Tatjana Beatovic, Ph.D.Workers for the markets of the region are selected by themselves for the needs of their companies, builders of all professions (masons, carpenters, rebar workers, plasterers, painters, plumbers, electricians, forklift operators, operators of construction machines), while for the needs of its clients, mainly production workers for the food and metal industries, truck and bus drivers, operators of construction machines, electricians, carpenters, welders, etc. Candidates come from: India, Nepal, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey, Philippines, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh... The best ratio of price and quality is achieved on average by workers from India and Nepal. Turks achieve high productivity with open work fronts for AG works, but are more expensive. The best welders of all types are Vietnamese, excellent masons and tilers are recruited in Egypt, and India, as the most populous country in the world, provides an inexhaustible source of good craftsmen in all professions.
- For five years now, we have been directly selecting workers exclusively with international experience on large projects in the countries of the Middle East. In our training centers in those countries, we check the level of the candidates` technical skills, psychological stability, capacity to learn and adapt to new business conditions, and leadership potential on the spot. We directly communicate to candidates the realistic conditions under which they will be hired, which reduces the possibility of abuse and their dissatisfaction. When the workers arrive in Serbia, we help them in the process of adaptation and introduction to work, we take care of their mental and health status, and general well-being. Foreign workers work in jobs intended for deficit occupations:
in the construction industry, these are all occupations from auxiliary workers to engineers, there are also bus and truck drivers, fruit and vegetable pickers, all occupations in the hotel industry, cooks and waiters, textile workers, and in the metal industry: welders, locksmiths, CNC operators, mechanical engineers …
The standards of construction work in the Western Balkans region are somewhat different compared to the home countries from which the candidates come, which is why workers with international experience are preferred. With quality guidance from managers and engineers, they adapt very quickly to our work standards and learn to work with machines and tools that they have not had the opportunity to work with before.
The advantages of employing foreign labor are, first of all, their high motivation to work and provide income for their families. A large number of available candidates in all categories during selection enables a quality choice. Low fluctuation in relation to the domestic workforce, willingness to work overtime and the fact that the employment contract lasts at least 2-3 years ensure the stability of the business and the possibility of taking on new projects. Their skills are at a high level, but they are ready to learn further and advance professionally. They respect their superiors and company rules, behave correctly on construction sites and in accommodation, there are no challenges with alcohol abuse, in a word, they are easy to manage.
Challenges are difficulties in communication and the issue of integration, different cultural habits that need to be known, respected and integrated, which at the same time means an advantage because this is how we learn openness, tolerance. At Modulor, they are proud of the fact that, through active work, they have successfully integrated workers of different cultures into the team. In all aspects, they are equal to the local workforce, who accept them well, as well as the local population. Real friendships are born between them, and a mixed marriage of Modulor`s colleagues is on the horizon!
