The old aesthetic values of the original Sava Centar from 1977 have just melded into the fresh, modern ambiance of one of the true symbols of modern Belgrade: the recognizable concrete columns and walls, the green installation pipes, the legendary unwrapped globe which talks, more than a thousand words speaking that this piece of the Earth’s crust is part of the world, now have, with the just completed construction intervention, an additional transparency, elegance and duration.

And that is not the only new quality arising from the reconstruction that took slightly under two years and cost Delta Holding a dizzying EUR 118 million: Sava Centar is now a sustainable, energy efficient and technologically modern facility, with a considerably increased capacity – for more than 5,000 participants.

Representatives of Delta Holding took the press on a tour of this building with a glorious past. After them, on November 14, it will be entered by the 1,500 participants in the International Congress of Nutritionists. The congress-business part is finished, and the reconstruction of Plava Dvorana (Blue Hall), now with as many as 4,000 comfortable armchairs, is planned for mid-2024.

The vice president at Delta Holding and the group CEO at Delta Real Estate, Angelina Nekic, confirmed that the protected parts of the exterior of Sava Centar had been fully preserved, according to the original blueprints of the architect Stojan Maksimovic and that a majority of the famous details of the architect Aleksandar Saletic had been kept in the interior.

– We have replaced the facade for which the facility is known and it is now energy efficient, all installations have been changed, and with the reorganization of the space, the congress capacity of Sava Centar has increased from 16 to 46 halls – she said.

The CEO of Sava Centar, Kristina Milincic, said that, with the reconstruction, they had split the building functionally in three parts – congress, business and cultural – so that everything would go smoothly in it at all times.

– As a congress center, Sava Centar is the biggest and most modern one in Southeast Europe. We have increased its capacity three times and we now have halls in which over 5,000 visitors can fit – she said. – Belgrade can once again host large international congresses, important political gatherings, corporate and cultural events. Sava Centar is also a business building, so nearly 30,000 square meters feature A-class office space for rent and a modern shopping zone.

According to her, Sava Centar now has 45 offices which will be rented out, as well as 36 outlets.

The big Blue Hall will preserve its appearance, but it will be improved in terms of acoustics, comfort and technology, said Kristina Milincic.

Milincic also said that Sava Centar had gotten an “immersive hall”, the first of its kind in this part of Europe and one of the biggest ones in the world, in which the use of the most modern technologies enables the projection of digital content on the interior of the hall, where the image and the sound are emitted from all the walls, reflecting against the floor.

The director for design and construction at Delta Real Estate, Katarina Gajic, said that they had paid attention to the greening as well and that the facility and its area now featured a total of 17,000 square meters of green areas.

She pointed out that modern heating and cooling systems, energy-saving lighting and automated control had been installed, as well as 912 solar panels on the roof with a total power of 500 kW, meaning that Sava Centar would use 50% less energy than before. The use of renewable energy sources will save 226 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

– Sava Centar will thereby be the first in the region to get an ecological BREEAM certificate – said Kristina Gajic.

CCIS: Meeting place of business people from the whole world

The president of the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), Marko Cadez, said that the reconstruction of Sava Centar was “a symbol of a stronger Serbia, attractive to investors and the foreigners who work here and operate from here in the entire Southeast Europe.”

– I fully agree with the idea and the philosophy of Delta Holding, which has taken upon itself to reconstruct this edifice in a shared hope that SC will now be a meeting place of visionaries, businesses from the whole world, meetings of those who create something, creating a better world. Belgrade, especially the Belgrade of today, which has become the center of this part of Europe and the world, deserves that – said Cadez, as announced by the CCIS.

He reminded that, in the preceding 45 years and more, Sava Centar had been visited by 10.5 million people during nearly 20,000 events, from smaller ones to the biggest gatherings such as the Summits of the Non-Aligned Movement, or the IMF or OSCE assemblies.

– Today we can say that Sava Centar will not be just one building, but that it will have its function in the Serbian economy and the economy of the region – Cadez said.
