The minister of construction, transport and infrastructure of Serbia, Goran Vesic, took part this Friday in the Serbian-Ukrainian Business Forum in Belgrade, where he said that he was convinced that Ukraine and its people were looking at days of recovery and prosperity, but also noted that Serbia was there to help. At the gathering at the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia (CCIS), Vesic reminded that, not long before, in cooperation with partners from the USA, the initiative for the potential participation of Serbian construction companies in the projects of renewal of Ukraine had been launched and that, on that occasion, he had personally organized a meeting at the Government of Serbia with the Serbian construction companies which had expressed the desire to take part in the post-war renewal of Ukraine.

As he pointed out, the joint conclusion of that meeting is that the Serbian construction and mechanical industries had the kind of engineering capacities, labor force, mechanization, references and experience that allowed them to take part in the very demanding projects that Ukraine was looking at after the war.

Vesic said that, in the preceding few years, the Serbian construction industry had been on an upswing and that the facts confirmed it.

– According to the latest data of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia, in the third quarter of 2023, the value of the works carried out in the territory of Serbia, increased 19.3% in current prices compared to the third quarter of 2022, whereas, observed by constant prices, the total value of the construction works grew 15.8%. At the end of 2013, the contribution of the construction sector to the Serbian GDP amounted to 3%, and in 2022, the participation of the construction industry in our GDP amounted to 5.5% – said Vesic.

According to him, the annual value of the implemented construction works jumped from around EUR 1.6 billion realized in 2013 to EUR 4.95 billion in 2021 to EUR 5.24 billion in 2022.
