By the end of this month, passenger traffic will commence on the Subotica - Szeged railroad, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Goran Vesic confirmed, after his Hungarian colleague Janos Lazar did so recently.

As Vesic said, a temporary border crossing was made on the railway itself.

- Hungarian and Serbian customs will be there together. In the future, when the reconstruction of the Szeged station is completed, the crossing will be located in Szeged, so both the exits and checks will be carried out there - Vesic explained and added that the plan is for train departures on the Subotica - Szeged line to be every three hours.

Additionally, he reiterated that there are discussions with Hungarian colleagues about the construction of the Subotica-Baja railway and added that the major part of that railway is within the territory of Hungary.

As for Horgos, he said that a decision was made to build a completely new border crossing which will be integrated.

- We will do the 'Y arm' in full profile in order to have Kelebija 1 and Kelebija 2, since another transition will be made there. With the construction of the high-speed road, which we will commence in December, Backi Breg will be much better connected because the Hungarians are constructing a highway on their end, which means that Horgos will be considerably less burdened - Vesic assures.

He stated that the Hungarians are also working on a bridge over the Danube near Mohacs, and the Romanians are working on their own highway near Srpska Crnja. Also, a large border crossing will be built at Backi Breg, which, he added, means less cars and crowds on Horgos and Kelebija, because we will have three major border crossings.

According to him, when it comes to traffic on the future Belgrade-Budapest railway, there will be joint Serbian-Hungarian customs and police controls at the Subotica railway station, which, as he stated, means that those who board the train at that station will pass through the Hungarian customs and the police and that there will be no more stops until Budapest, and since the Serbian police and customs will be at the railway station in Budapest, so those going to Belgrade will go through the procedure in the same way.
