Of the planned EUR 60 million for the financing of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Serbia, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will earmark EUR 10 million for the “Go Green” program, supported by the EU.

As announced, this financial package will enable the continuation of investments of small and medium companies in upgrading the technology and equipment, the improvement of competitiveness and the provision of support to exporting potentials.

Said financial package supports the green economy of Serbia, considering that 50% of the credit for SMEs and 70% of the part meant for the “Go Green” program for SMEs will be in line with the EBRD Green Economy Transition initiative.

The SMEs which are financed through the “Go Green” program will have the right to refunds in the amount of 10% of the loan or 15% for investments in renewable energy sources and certain agricultural projects.

It is also said that SMEs are the backbone of the Serbian economy, securing two thirds of the jobs in the country. So far, the EBRD has invested over EUR 8.7 billion in Serbia through 340 projects, of which nearly 70% was support to the private sector.
