From its arrival to Serbia until the end of November this year, Zijin Mining Group preserved the jobs and increased the number of employees to over 7,000, which is of great importance for the entire east Serbia, stated the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic.

She talked to the deputy minister of natural resources of China, Zhuang Shaoqin, about cooperation and projects in the sectors of mining, renewable energy sources and connecting education and science institutions of the two countries.

According to her, after many years, the smelter in Bor was reconstructed and expanded, securing a higher production rate, increased air quality and better work conditions in Serbia, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

– We want to develop sustainable mining by implementing innovative and technologically most modern solutions and that is why we need the best world experiences – the minister said.

Djedovic Handanovic reminded that, several months before, memorandums of understanding had been signed with the Chinese Zijin Mining Group on new investments.

– Thanks to the new investment cycle of as much as USD 3.8 billion, Serbia will become one of the biggest producers of copper in Europe and one of the leading producers of gold – the minister said.

Also, as she added, Zijin Mining will build a solar power plant with a capacity of 300 MW for its needs, which will ensure a synergy between mining and renewable energy sources and improve environmental protection.

The minister also emphasized the interest of the Chinese company Shanghai Fengling Renewables in investments in the production and storage of capacities from renewable energy sources in Serbia, especially green hydrogen, which is the future of global energy.

– Together with our strategic partners from Zijin Mining Group, this company is considering the construction of a hybrid facility, a solar and wind power plant, which would produce green hydrogen, which would enable Zijin to reduce the costs – Djedovic Handanovic reminded.
