The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is interested in financing the project of the construction of the reversible hydro power plant (RHPP) Bistrica, but also other energy projects, it was said at the meeting between the minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, and the ambassador of Japan to Serbia, Akira Imamura.

– The RHPP Bistrica is the key energy project for electricity supply in the future, which will enable for us the connection of new capacities from clean energy and a better balancing of variable energy sources. This year is very important for the completion of the technical documentation. The Feasibility Study, which looks into all the economic parameters and benefits, in addition to the financial ones, has been completed and the estimate is that the construction of this facility will cost over a billion euros. The JICA is interested in financing this project, as are the numerous Japanese companies which have the knowledge and the most modern technology for such facilities – the minister said.

The minister reminded that the finishing works on the construction of the smoke-gas desulfuring facility at TENT A, done with financial support from Japanese partners, were in progress.

Ambassador Imamura pointed to years of good relations between the two countries and supported Serbia’s new investment plan which should enable the development of the economy, modernization and transition to the green economy, where Japan could contribute a lot. He expressed satisfaction that there was an interest on both sides in cooperation in the construction and financing of the RHPP Bistrica, as well as other energy projects, and that the technology of energy storage was very developed in Japan.

– Japanese companies are ready to share the knowledge and experience with Serbian energy companies when it comes to the construction of new capacities from RES, the balancing and storage of energy, which is of great importance for the energy system today – he said.
