BIO4 Campus in Belgrade, Nice Smile in Mladenovac – 2023 Retrospective, Investments in HEALTHCARE

For the second year in a row, the leading place when it comes to the most read news on our portal about investments in healthcare belongs to the story about the BIO4 Campus, announced as the biggest investment in an individual projects in the field of science in Serbia.

Hospitals and institutes will also be built in Belgrade, Valjevo, Novi Sad, Kraljevo, and attention was also drawn by the project of a private dental clinic in Mladenovac.

In addition to the announcement of the construction and reconstruction of health centers, the list also features the news about the presentation of the digital Platform for the single MR imaging schedule list in Serbia.

We present the investments which the users of eKapija found the most interesting.

1. BIO4 Complex Torlak Belgrade

The BIO4 Campus, announced as the biggest investment in an individual project in the field of science in Serbia placed first on our last year’s list too. The campus will spread on around 20 ha of land in Kumodraz and encompass education science-research institutions, that is, three faculties and eight science institutes. The project is a new bioeconomic camp in Europe and encompasses four fields: biomedicine, biotechnology, bioinformatics and biodiversity.

At the beginning of October, the Government of Serbia adopted the bill on confirming the framework agreement on a loan between the Council of Europe Development Bank and the Republic of Serbia for the construction of the BIO4 Campus in Belgrade. The estimated total costs of the project, according to the explanation of the law, amount to EUR 413.5 million, and a credit of EUR 200 million is planned.

2. General Hospital Valjevo

The future complex of the General Hospital of Valjevo, following the extension and reconstruction worth EUR 110 million, will consist of a total of 24 facilities instead of the current 15, and the total developed floor area will increase from the current 14,000 m2 to around 18,000 m2.

This is said in the urban project that was prepared by the Institute for Architecture and Urban Planning of Serbia. The plan includes the construction of 10 new facilities, 5 of which are in the function of treatment.

Phase-based construction is planned, and the value of the job has been estimated at RSD 12.9 billion, without the VAT (around EUR 110.3 million).

3. Mother and Child Healthcare Institute Belgrade – reconstruction

The Mother and Child Healthcare Institute “Dr Vukan Cupic” in Belgrade should soon be reconstructed and extended according to the project of the Belgrade-based studio Bureau Cube Partners.

The most important interventions are reflected in the full reconstruction of the complex and the full reorganization of its function. The construction of a new surgery unit and the solving of the problem of parking, that is, the construction of a garage, are planned too.

4. New Children and Youth Healthcare Institute of Vojvodina

At the Provincial Government, in November, the project for the construction of the new complex of the Children and Youth Healthcare Institute of Vojvodina – Children’s Hospital – was presented.

The facilities of Children’s Hospital currently have 16,000 square meters, and after the reconstruction and extension, they will have around 57,000 square meters.

As the president of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirovic, pointed out, the aim is to secure, together with the Government of Serbia, financial funds of at least 8.5 to 9 billion dinars in the next year, so that the construction could begin in 2025.

5. Tirsova 2 Hospital Belgrade

The new University Children’s Clinic Tirsova 2 in Belgrade will have 62,000 m2, 11 levels, around 300 beds, 528 parking spaces. The value of the works has been estimated at RSD 11.2 billion (around EUR 95 million), without the VAT, says the tender for the construction of Tirsova 2. The selected contractors will be given three years to complete the construction.

The new hospital, as said, will replace the existing building, which will most likely be repurposed as a unit for palliative medical care for children, an accommodation unit for the parents, or a combination of both.

6. Diagnostics Center within General Hospital Studenica Kraljevo

The construction of a diagnostics center with MR imaging, radiology, outpatient clinics and laboratories within the General Hospital Studenica is planned in Kraljevo.

The construction of outpatient clinics is planned in the central part of the Health Center Studenica, where the parking lot is located at the moment.

The total area of the parcel is 35,669 m2, whereas the planned gross developed area of the new facility is 4,271.80 m2.

7. Dental Clinic Dr Tanasijevic Mladenovac

The dental clinic Dr Tanasijevic is to be built in Mladenovac, for which the team of Novi Sad architects Deep House Group got the request for it to be the most beautiful clinic in the Balkans. As they pointed out, their idea was to leave a mark on the architecture of this era through this project, which is challenging, impressive and slightly pretentious for the position where it is to be built.

8. Health Center Adice Novi Sad

The Health Center Novi Sad in the settlement of Adice started working in 2022, but the story about the awarded project drew attention from our readers last year as well. The architectural studio DBA was in charge of the project, and its owner, Djordje Bajilo, explained that the ground floor was transparent because they had wanted for “people to beat the deep fear of doctors and medical care.”


The project has also won awards, and the one that stands out is Architecture Masterprize, which was awarded to the DBA studio at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

9. Health Station Batajnica Belgrade

In addition to the primary healthcare services, the new health station in Batajnica will have a pharmacy and palliative care, according to the urban project that was prepared by the company Best Plan.

The total net area of the health station, a branch of the Health Center Zemun, is 3,221 m2.

The cadaster parcel features built facilities, which are slated to be demolished.

10. Digital Platform for Single MR Imaging Schedule List in Serbia

At the end of 2023, the first digital Platform for the single MR imaging schedule list was presented in Serbia. As announced by the Ministry of Health, the platform will, for the first time, unify all the MR imaging schedule lists, which will enable the sending of patients to the nearest hospital where they can do the check, based on the insight into the free terminals which will thereby be enabled.

The advantage of the Platform, as said, is the possibility of the insight into the number of MR imaging checks of each health institution, which will control the scheduling of these checks. It has been agreed with the directors of the health institutions for the optimal number of checks to be 24 a day.
