Djedovic Handanovic: Jadar Project Should Be Discussed, There Will Be No Mine Between Avala and Kosmaj

The minister of energy of Serbia, Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, says for RTS that the Jadar project should be discussed and that relevant studies should be viewed – both the technical ones and the ones about environmental protection. We should see how to use our mining resources, the minister emphasizes. She points out that no mine will be built in the space between Avala and Kosmaj.

Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on RTS that the government, the president, and she as the competent minister agreed that the Jadar project should be discussed.

– I believe that we should have the opportunity to see the relevant studies, both the technical ones and the ones about environmental protection, which the public has not seen. I believe that we should see how to best use our resources, by which I don’t just mean the Jadar project, but also our mining resources – the minister says.

When asked about the exploitation and explorations of ores in the area between the Avala and Kosmaj mountains, the minister responds that there will be no mine there.

– Absolutely no opening of a mine is planned in that area, and that has been taken out of context. A spatial plan is being prepared, but that in no way entails the opening of a mine. There is no such intention and it’s only used for bad political purposes – says Djedovic Handanovic.
