Laying Down of Foundation Stone for Construction of Innovation District in Kragujevac Announced for Next Friday

The beginning of the construction of the Innovation District in Kragujevac will be marked by the laying down of the foundation stone on Friday, February 23, announced the minister of information and telecommunications of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanovic.

– That is an extension of the State Data Center, which we started building in 2019. Where once was only a big meadow, we have managed to turn Kragujevac into a big IT center in several years through the construction of the State Data Center and investments in digitization – Jovanovic told the press in Kragujevac recently.

He explained that the Innovation District was being built within the “Serbia 2027” program and that it would spread on over five hectares, with over, 56,000 square meters, which will be built in phases, and the first one will consist of accommodation capacities for the employees in the big IT companies which rent space in the State Data Center.

– They will work on various innovative things there, and we are also planning our laboratory for the National Center for Information Security there, because in the 21st century, we have to follow the trends when it comes to information security. The fifth science-technology park in a row in Serbia will be located there – the minister said.

He estimated that it would be a meeting place of young IT talents, the academic sector and startups, as well as all those who work in Kragujevac on new technologies.

Regarding the visit of the government’s delegation to Dubai, Jovanovic said that there had been plenty of talk about the development of artificial intelligence, which Serbia had worked on a lot, and that Kragujevac featured the national platform for the development of artificial intelligence.

– In the coming period, we will invest in the expansion of supercomputers – he said.

He added that talks had been had with Oracle about expanding the cooperation, because the company should be the first one to occupy space in the Innovation District, where, according to him, many new young people will be employed.

– That is an invitation to our young graduates and those who are still studying to apply. There are plenty of jobs in both Oracle and the State Data Center – Jovanovic said.
