Having produced over 50,000 queen bees, more than 200,000 cells and more than 5,000 swarms since 2014, the experts gathered in the company Golden Bee designed a unique product in the world. It is the Beeamond system – a beehive meant for an interior space.

– Through intensive work with bees, we got the idea that a bee community could be located in an interior space, where, through their activities, the bees would award its users with bee products and where, through its presence, it would enrich the interior of numerous lovers of nature. Most people have not had the opportunity to observe the micro-world of bees up close, and the only contact comes down to observing flying bees or observing their activity on flowers of various colors in nature. Today, it is possible to become a beekeeper and have them as pets, enjoying the sight of their awe-inspiring organization every day, from the youngest to the oldest owners. Bees have been pronounced the most important creatures on the planet and, if they disappeared, this world would surely look different. We have brought together the results of our six-years work into a single multifunctional system which we have named Beeamond – Marijana Dolasevic, an engineer of agriculture, says for eKapija.

Depending on the needs, but also the degree of training, there are three kinds of systems – decorative, production-oriented and professional.

The first one is designed to enable studying bees in their habitat in a fun way, whether you set up the system in your home or at your workplace. To beekeepers, it serves as a means of monitoring the activities in the field, the pollen intake and as an indicator of the conditions in the beehive.

The production-oriented system enables the collecting of the bee products that the bees have prepared using the ingredients from the environment. It supplies the users with pollen and propolis, and it also enables an unlimited use of beehive inhalation.

The most advanced model, which is also the most demanded one, is the professional model, which provides a full beekeeping experience and a benefit from all bee products and services. With this model, in addition to the elements which comprise the production model, another two new elements are obtained – a honeycomb and a kit for the application of bee venom.

As Dolasevic adds, there are several reasons why the development took six years, primarily the detailed planning, research and designing, so as to ensure the functionality, safety and an attractive design.

– The process of designing and developing a new product can be complex and requires time for all the components to be harmonized optimally. After the concept is prepared, the various components of the system need to be tested in order to ensure their functionality and efficiency. This includes the testing of the materials, the collecting mechanisms, the safety functions, as well as the processes of installation and maintenance – our interviewee explains.

She also says that the production processes needed to be optimized, so as to reduce the production costs, increase the efficiency and ensure a consistent quality, which is necessary for mass production and distribution.

– The introduction of an innovative product such as the Beeamond system requires the time and effort to educate the potential purchasers about the benefits of the product and the manners of use. This can include marketing campaigns, participation in fairs, workshops and other activities which aim to raise awareness of the product and its value. All these phases are necessary in order to ensure that the product is functional, safe, economical and acceptable in the market – emphasizes Dolasevic.

When it comes to the market, they recognize it in various sectors and industries. Talking about the home and residential sector, our interviewee says that the potential purchasers are individuals who want to improve their health and quality of life by implementing apitherapy at home.

– Also, people who are interested in urban beekeeping, or want to contribute to pollination activities in their environment could be interested in the Beeamond system. There’s also the business sector – restaurants, hotels, wellness centers and similar business facilities, which can use the Beeamond system as an additional attraction for their guests, or as part of their offer of health and wellness services. Also, schools, universities and education centers can use the Beeamond system as an educational tool for learning about bees, ecology and the health benefits of bee products – says Marijana Dolasevic.

In the next period, the company plans to expand the market, but also to continuously invest in the research and development of new products and additions for the Beeamond system.

– Our goal is to satisfy the needs of various markets and target groups through additional functionalities, improvements in the design and technological innovations which will improve the customer experience. As a responsible company, we are working continuously on improving our practices to the end of reducing the environmental impact and contributing to the social community. This includes the use of ecological materials, support to local beekeepers and support to initiatives for the protection of biodiversity in order to ensure the sustainability of our operations and contribute to a better environment. We are continuing to develop our marketing strategies and branding in order to increase the awareness of the Beeamond system and build a recognizable brand – concludes eKapija’s interviewee.

The future of beekeeping and how to protect bees

The ecosystem and the global agricultural production depend on the future of beekeeping, Dolasevic believes. She points out that bees play a vital role in the pollination of plants, which is necessary for the production of food and the preservation of biodiversity. However, they are increasingly jeopardized due to various factors, including: the use pesticides, climate changes and diseases.

In order to protect the bees and ensure their survival, a range of measures needs to be taken, our interviewee believes and specifies:

Reducing the use of pesticides: measures should be taken to reduce the use of harmful pesticides which have a negative impact on bees. Instead, ecological methods of agricultural production which are less harmful to bees and other useful insects should be promoted.

Inciting organic agriculture: organic agriculture uses fewer chemicals, which is better for the bees. Inciting organic agriculture can help protect bees and their habitats.

Educating the public: it is important to raise public awareness of the importance of bees and how jeopardized they are. Education about the role of bees in pollination and the importance of their survival can motivate people to take steps to protect these important insects.

Support to beekeeping: supporting local beekeepers and their efforts to breed and keep bees can be of great use. It can include the purchase of local honey and other bee products, as well as support to beekeepers in their preservation activities.

She points out that a combination of these measures can help protect bees and ensure their survival in the future, while sending a message that the preservation of bees is crucial to the survival of the entire ecosystem and human species.
