Bridge at Ada joined - First vehicles to cross it in mid-December 2011
(Bridge at Ada)
The bridge at Ada was joined on Monday, August 8th, when the last steel segment of the main span was put in place, thus connecting the banks of the Sava river.
This event took place in the presence of Serbian President Boris Tadic, Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, and Chairman of the Belgrade City Assembly Aleksandar Antic.
The bridge at Ada Ciganlija, as an integral part of the inner ring road, will have six lanes, two light rail lines, and two paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
It will be 969 meters long and 45 meters wide, with the central pylon 200 meters high, and it will cost about EUR 120 million, exclusive of access roads.
The bridge will this weekend be opened to citizens who want to take a walk from the Cukarica side to the New Belgrade side of the Sava river. The first vehicles are expected to cross the bridge on December 15th, until when certain part of access roads will have been completed as well. The whole bridge with all access roads is planned to be finished in 2013.
