Fast Railroad from Belgrade to Subotica Might Be Opened as Soon as December

The works on the high-speed railroad from Novi Sad to Subotica are progressing faster than planned, according to the investor and the contractors. They envisage that, as soon as December, regular rail traffic could be established between Belgrade and the northernmost city in Serbia.

The construction of the Novi Sad-Subotica railroad for speeds up to 200 kilometers per hour are going as planned, and the works on the entire length of the railroad are organized in three shifts.

– The substructure is 98% realized, the superstructure is 67% realized, of the entire length. There are also the works on the electrification of the railroad, the installation of the overhead line, as well as the station building, that is, the stationary facilities, so the construction works are for the most part finished – says engineer Slobodan Kostic.

The investor expects that regular rail traffic could be established as soon as December. A trip on the railroad between Novi Sad and Subotica should take 42 minutes, and from Belgrade to Subotica around 70 minutes.

– The plan is for serious testing to start as soon as September and for the railroad to be finished in the sense of construction before that, for the contractors to do their testing and to then have special trains arrive in September, which will test the railroad and the quality of the works done – points out Nenad Stanisavljevic of the company Serbian Railways Infrastructure.

The Chinese railroad company has hired over 2,000 local experts, over 400 special machines and a large number of Chinese workers. The Chinese engineer says that that the cooperation of the experts on both sides has contributed to the acceleration of the works.

– The main tasks of this camp and all these workshops are the welding of the tracks, grinding, cooling and precision welding, and this is all done by AT welding, which in a way guarantees very high-quality welding, which is extremely important in the case of fast railroads – explains Yang Guanling, the engineer of the Chinese railroad company.
