The agreement on the joining of the three exchanges was signed in Budapest by the directors of the transfer systems of Serbia, Hungary and Slovenia and the European exchange EPEX SPOT, as a stakeholder in the company ADEX.
Djedovic Handanovic estimated on that occasion that that was of importance for the further development of the Serbian electrical energy system and that Hungary had joined the regional exchange founded by Serbia and Slovenia and added that Elektromreza Srbije (EMS) was becoming the owner of 25% of the electricity exchange in Slovenia and Hungary.
The minister said that the joint platform for trading on all three exchanges would additionally incite the development of the regional electricity market, secure a reliable market environment necessary for new investments and have a positive impact on the development and integration of renewable energy sources in the region.
The CEO of EMS, Jelena Matejic pointed out that a joint business infrastructure was now being established and that a full synergy between all three exchanges was being achieved, on the project which had been initiated in 2018.
Matejic estimated that the joining brough numerous benefits, bringing the country closer to the single European market, while facilitating access to the single trading service for all the participants.
In addition to that, the realization of this joining of the exchanges creates the conditions for EMS to cooperate with the Hungarian transfer system operator MAVIR in the process of joining the day-ahead market with the single European market, which amounts to fulfilling one of the requirements for Serbia for the removal of the CBAM fee, Matejic said.
With the agreement regarding the BlueSky project which was signed in Budapest today, the Hungarian electricity exchange, HUPX, joined the first regional electricity exchange for Central and Southeast Europe – ADEX, which was founded in 2022 by the Serbian and Slovenian transfer system operators and EPEX SPOT.
The seat of ADEX, which will run the Serbia, Slovenian and Hungarian exchange, will be located in Budapest.
The signing was attended by the state secretary of the Ministry of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Veljko Kovacevic, the minister of foreign affairs and trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, and the minister of environmental protection, climate and energy of Slovenia, Bojan Kumer.
