Projects for Expansion of State Data Center in Kragujevac Ready – Purchase of Supercomputer for Development of Artificial Intelligence to Follow as Well

Within the State Data Center in Kragujevac, the plan is to build Block 2, with a capacity of 16 MW, as well as to purchase a new supercomputer for the development of artificial intelligence, which will be the biggest one in Southeast Europe, announced the minister of information and telecommunications of Serbia, Mihailo Jovanovic.

At the opening of the conference “A Journey to a Smarter Future: Establishing Smarter and More Sustainable Communities in Serbia”, which is held in Kragujevac, Jovanovic pointed out that the center was a symbol of Serbian digitization and eGovernment.

– Thanks to the investments of the state in digitization and industrialization, Kragujevac has transformed into the Serbian Silicon Valley and the projects for the further investments in its modernization have been ready for some time now. In Kragujevac, two facilities of the State Data Center were built and started working in Kragujevac in the shortest amount of time possible, whereas the project for the expansion of additional modules of this center are ready – pointed out Jovanovic.

According to him, the works on the construction of the innovation district, where members of the IT community will be able to work, started in February, and a special place is reserved for the national center for information security and the future fifth science-technology park in Serbia.

The center for the promotion of digitization, the part for bioinformatics and bioengineering and the space for the training of students will also be located there, the minister specified and added that, within the innovation district, the Smart City Center for the development of smart energy systems and the connecting of smart infrastructure would be formed as well.

– Having recognized digitization as the most important catalyst of innovations, Kragujevac has done almost more than any other city or municipality in the field of open data. This city is currently second by the number of open data, with 215 resources on the national Open Data Portal – said Jovanovic.
