As per the data by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, out of cca 7,700 IT companies operating in Serbia, around 2,000 of them have majority foreign capital. Bojan Stanic, assistant director of the sector for strategic analysis, services and internationalization, says that it is quite realistic to expect that this trend of foreign companies' interest in our IT market will continue in the upcoming period.

- The confirmation of this thesis came after the outbreak of the Ukrainian crisis, when a large number of IT experts from Russia and Ukraine chose Serbia as the country from which to continue their business activities. The value of the export of IT services last year was EUR 3.4 billion, so economists rightly expect that 2024 will be a new record year when it comes to this indicator - Stanic explains.

A total of 21,000 entrepreneurs registered for IT activities operate in Serbia. Of all the companies that have the majority of foreign capital, most are from the Russian Federation - 428, then from the USA - 170, Germany - 121, Switzerland - 112 and Great Britain - 88 companies, he adds.

- This means that companies with a majority of Russian capital make up about a fifth of companies from the IT industry, so their influence is therefore highly significant - emphasizes Stanic.
